+ INDEX / PRODUCER SHOWCASE / SEPTEMBER 10
+ INDEX / MARTYN / SEPTEMBER 25 / BUY TICKETS
+ INDEX / SURGEON / OCTOBER 23 / BUY TICKETS _______________________________________________

On Friday September 10th, INDEX changes things up a bit with a very diverse range of sounds.

To headline we have a rare performance from man responsible for one of the most important movements in electronic music of the 90’s, OVERCAST (aka Mark N) to perform a retrospective set of all Newcastle material produced during the reign of his Bloody Fist label between 1994 – 2004. Expect hardcore breakbeats, jungle, drum and bass and of course hardcore techno mixed up in unique style by this former ITF and DMC turntablist champ.

Also, we a get a rare “all” AFRIKA HITECH set from local boy Mark Pritchard. Void/Index regulars would have heard the odd Hitech tune dropped during Mark’s sets over the last few months but on Sept 10th he gets to refine his set before taking the Africa Hitech Sound System ( together with Steve Spacek) on the road in Europe during October. Hitech has blown up overseas after the first 2 releases on Warp earlier this year so come and get a taste of what the UK and EU crowds will be witnessing from Mark in the coming weeks.

On top of this we have live sets from DISJUNCTION REUNION, BINT and PORTRAIT covering everything from minimal techno, to glitch electronic and IDM to flat out Breakcore. Nothing will be missed!

OVERCAST
aka Mark N – Bloody Fist Records

Bloody Fist Records was an independent record label based in Newcastle, Australia. It was one of the most prolific labels involved in hardcore/gabber, industrial, breaks, noise, and related genres. Founded by Nasenbluten's Mark Newlands (formerly known as Stigs/TDU) in 1994 as a platform for local artists, the label initially began distributing cassettes and moved on to become a major label in the hardcore techno scene. The signing of Nasenbluten to Industrial Strength Records brought the label worldwide recognition with Industrial Strength releasing a sampler of Bloody Fist artists, but it was reported to "shun media attention"

Bands and artists signed to Bloody Fist in its lifetime included Syndicate, Xylocaine, Memetic, Guyver, Nasenbluten and Newlands' own alias Overcast. At 3p.m. AEST on October 1, 2004, the label shut its doors after ten years of serving the underground music community.

AFRIKA HITECH
aka Mark Pritchard & Steve Spacek – Warp Records

Created at Red Bull music Academy in 2007, Africa Hitech forms part of Mark Pritchard’s collective of projects – MPP Productions. MPP is a banner under which all the wide-ranging productions from this prolific producer can co-exist and released through Warp it includes Africa Hitech, Harmonic 313, new Reload material, and others.

Essentially twisting the sonic palette of Detroit techno to fit their vision of post-apocalyptic riddims, 'Blen' is all oxygen-sucking bass kicks and razor snares until Spacek comes in over a chorus of insect synths. This is not the smooth Steve Spacek you may know from his
eponymous band, this is Steve Spacek as a rudeboy from the future. Decrying haters trying to “take di piss”, his unique patois creates it’s own intriguing atmosphere.

DISJUNCTION REUNION
Luke Killen, lives in and plays around Sydney regularly. His music is often described as detailed and diverse, with strong emotive content, drawing influence from hip hop, contemporary electronics and jazz. Releases to date include two CD albums for Couchblip! records, appearances on numerous compilations including, more recently, Unschooled Record's West4East, Tim Koch's Please Don't Tell Me That's Your Remix, as well as ABC's Sound Quality Volume 2, Groovescooters refashioned 2 and several others scattered here and there. Live sets have been featured on Alchemy and 2ser radio and he has supported international acts such as Prefuse 73. His second full length release Modernism for Newborns was released on Couchblip! in 2004 and he is currently working on the very serious business of releasing a new vinyl EP also for Couchblip!

B.I.N.T
b.i.n.t. has released his glitchy OCD dance-music on BRK, GPFS and his own Gang Sign Records. PORTRAIT
After being introduced to dubstep whilst travelling through Japan in early 2005, Portrait has developed his own unique style of dark melodic dubtechno and dubstep. Since then he has twice returned to Japan to support the likes of c_olvrin and Conoly Ospovat (Continental Drift Records -Tokyo) and locally he has played several shows at Sydney's Void and Index parties, supporting 2562 and Pinch. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Funktion, Shackleton, F, and Monolake, Portrait delivers a unique blend of hypnotic synths and progressive, tribal rhythms.
